XCMG and Rio Tinto Join Hands to Develop World-Class Iron Ore Mine Simandou
August 15,2024
On August 12, local time, XCMG and Rio Tinto, the world's largest iron ore producer, jointly signed a global cooperation framework agreement in Conakry, the capital of Guinea. At the same time, XCMG and Simfer, a joint venture between Rio Tinto and Chinalco, signed a work order for the Guinea mine project on site, working together to assist in the mining of the world's largest undeveloped iron ore mine, the Simandou project.
Liu Jiansen, Vice President of XCMG Machinery, and Chris Aitchison, General Manager of Simfer Project, signed an agreement.
Rio Tinto Group is a leading global mining company. In 2014, XCMG and Rio Tinto became friends because of XCMG hydraulic cylinder products, and the two sides established a historic cooperative relationship. The 400-ton excavator hydraulic cylinder provided by XCMG has been running continuously for more than 20,000 hours in the Australian mining area, setting a record for the trouble-free operation time of core components made in China. Since then, XCMG and Rio Tinto have jointly developed the GR2605 grader and the XC9 series high-end loader; in 2021, the XCMG mining grader GR5505 was successfully delivered to Rio Tinto. These equipment have played an important role in the production and operation of the mine.
Wang Feng, General Manager of West Africa Region of XCMG International Headquarters, and Chris Aitchison, General Manager of Simfer Project, signed the project work assignment
This time, XCMG successfully won the bid for the Simandou Mine Project in Guinea and will provide a complete set of core mining equipment, including dozens of 230-ton mining trucks, 350-horsepower and 550-horsepower large mining graders, with a total contract value of nearly 800 million yuan.
"Over the years, XCMG and Rio Tinto have forged a deep friendship through cooperation.
We are very honored to provide Rio Tinto's Simandou project with high-quality large-scale complete mining equipment. Thank you for Rio Tinto's trust. This will be a new starting point for high-level friendly cooperation between XCMG and Rio Tinto, and will further demonstrate XCMG's leading technology and innovation capabilities in the field of heavy mining equipment." said Liu Jiansen, vice president of XCMG Machinery. "We are very pleased to win this heavy 'Olympic gold medal' for China's large-scale complete mining equipment industry. XCMG not only provides world-class products, but also is committed to supporting local community development, enriching training programs, increasing local employment opportunities, and contributing to the development of the world-renowned Simandou project and surrounding communities."
Chris Aitchison, General Manager of the SimFer Project, said: "We are very pleased to cooperate with XCMG, an internationally renowned supplier. We believe that this cooperation will greatly promote local employment and skills improvement in Guinea, promote investment in vocational and technical education, and maximize the potential of the Simandou project."
Aboubacar Koulibaly, President of Rio Tinto Guinea, said: "We are very pleased to work with XCMG to participate in this extraordinary project. The Simandou project can become a key driver of Guinea's economic growth - it will give rise to a new wave of investment and build the country's industrial structure. It will also be a new starting point for our cooperation with XCMG."
